Mercury in Fish Review- Question #2
Some of the mercury studies appear to be misleading- suggesting that there might actually be benefits in eating fish with higher mercury levels. Why might these results be occurring and what does this tell you about scientific experiments?

Different studies done by different people will show different results, based on what they are looking for
These results might be positive because all scientific experiments are not always accurate and with a little bit of error it could tell you that eating fish with low levels of mercury makes people do better on certain tests than others. All experiments are based on theorys. These results could occur because the test group that they used were all very intelligent.
The tests found that the children did better on the iq tests, this seems to conflict with other stidies that have taken place. however the high scores may simply be due to thew benifits of fish not mercury.
Some of the positive effects that you can receive from eating fish are the excellent nutrients in them. After listening to the podcast, the subject is so controversal that it's actually hard to even make a statement without going to both sides of the argument.

One test showed that low levels of mercury will make people smarter and they will do better on the test that they were given.
The tests were done by different people looking for different results. A scientist looking for positive results is going to discuss positive results. One study used fish that contained mercury, and the other used fish as a way to improve brain functions.
There are benifits of eating fish. The tests show that eating fish with low mercury made the test results higher. The fish have some benificial neutrience and benificial fatty acids. experimenters will get different results than others.
People may be getting these results because in one place of there study they said that kids with high mercury levels were becoming more active which could be either a positive or negative effect. Another place they did there studies was where people ate a lot of whale meat. It not only has high mercury levels but there are other toxins in it that can effect a person besides the mercury although some scientists say that it is the mercury. Scientific experiments are not always accurate because different scientists look at the situation from different angles and disagree giving us no real proof of anything.
I agree with brandon. People do different studies for different reasons.
